The use-by date is one of the strongest levers for preserving the freshness delivered to your customers and controlling waste. Rather than calculating it by hand, OstraOS computes it automatically at every packing event, based on the maximum durations defined per species.
One use-by date per species
- Oysters, mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, cockles: each species carries its own maximum consumption window.
- Durations are configurable in the traceability rules, species by species.
- The use-by date is the packing date plus the species' maximum window in force.
Printed and tracked
The use-by date prints on the commercial and health label of every packed unit and stays visible in the sellable inventory. A unit past its date automatically moves to Expired status and is no longer eligible for sale.
